About me

Who am I?

I was born and brought up in South Africa, leaving as a young woman in 1962. I have lived in the UK ever since.  I worked as an infant school teacher for nearly 20 years before becoming a university lecturer in 1991.

I began training as an integrative psychotherapist at Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling in 2005  and moved to complete my training at the Metanoia Institute in 2008. I have completed Metanoia’s formal training and  will be doing my final, oral examination in May 2012. When I have passed this examination I will be registered with the UKCP as a psychotherapist. I am currently registered with them as a trainee psychotherapist.

I volunteered for several years at Cotswolds Counselling in Cirencester. I work  part time as a psychotherapist in private practice in Wotton-under-Edge and in Cardiff at the Welsh Psychotherapy Partnership and part time as a university professor at Cardiff University School of Social Sciences.

I have a particular interest in, and experience of, working with people who have suffered from trauma either in childhood or more recently in adulthood. I also work with people experiencing psychological and/or emotional distress of all kinds, including depression, anxiety, workplace bullying, relationship problems and a range of other issues. With my South African background, I have had a lifelong interest in issues of equality, and how inequalities — especially gender, sexuality, race and class — impact on people’s lives.

I work in one-to-one sessions of 50 minutes, with adults and with young people, and offer either short or long term counselling and psychotherapy. My usual fee is £35 per session. However, I also have some low cost places at a cost that can be individually negotiated with you.
